Ex‑CJI Sanjiv Khanna Appointed Distinguished Professor at HPNLU Shimla
Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who served as the 51st Chief Justice of India from November 2024 to May 2025, has accepted the position of Distinguished Professor at Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla. This prestigious honorary role was officially confirmed on July 12, 2025, when Justice Khanna formally agreed to join the university, where he has previously served as the Visitor.
His appointment has been hailed as a pivotal moment for HPNLU, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena describing it as a “transformative milestone” that will enrich the institution’s academic and research environment through his judicial wisdom and mentorship.
Justice Khanna’s legal journey began with his elevation to the Supreme Court in January 2019, and culminated in his tenure as Chief Justice until his retirement on May 13, 2025.
