Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Court Sends Sonam Raghuvanshi & Four Aides to 8-Day Police Custody

25‑year‑old Sonam, newly married from Indore, stands accused of masterminding her husband Raja’s murder during their honeymoon. Investigators allege she conspired with her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and hired accomplices, including contract killers, to ambush Raja near Wei‑Sawdong Falls.

Police say Sonam paid ₹50,000 to track Raja’s movements and secured a hideout in Indore—but bolted to UP when the net closed. Key evidence includes a confession, CCTV footage, a suspiciously abandoned mangalsutra and ring, and a guide’s eyewitness account of the couple with unknown Hindi‑speaking men.

A Meghalaya court on June 11 granted an eight-day police remand to 25-year-old Sonam Raghuvanshi, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, and three other accused in the brutal murder of her husband, 29-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi. The victim’s body—with fatal head injuries from a sharp weapon—was discovered on June 2 at Wei Sawdong Falls, after the couple went missing during their honeymoon on May 23.

According to police, evidence reveals a premeditated plot hatched in Indore days before the wedding. Testimony and CCTV footage suggest that Sonam conspired with Kushwaha—described as her lover—to hire three men to carry out the killing after resisting the marriage. Following the murder, the body was dumped in the gorge and the accused fled, with Sonam disguising herself and eventually surrendering in Ghazipur on June 8.

Police indicated that remand has been sought for reconstruction of the crime scene and verification of confessions against physical evidence including phone records, forensic results, and witness statements. Authorities stress that the investigation is ongoing, with additional leads being pursued.
